In 1985, Roy Lichtenstein collaborated with Champagne Taittinger to create a unique set of champagne flutes as part of the Taittinger Collection. These limited-edition flutes, which were released in 1990, feature Lichtenstein’s signature comic-strip-inspired aesthetic, integrating vibrant colors and bold lines that evoke his characteristic style. The glasses were produced through hand-blowing techniques and are adorned with his motifs, encapsulating both art and luxury in a collectible form.
Lichtenstein’s involvement in this project was part of Taittinger’s broader initiative, started in the late 1970s, to blend fine art with the world of champagne. The series, launched by Claude Taittinger, has featured several renowned artists over the years. The glasses Lichtenstein designed reflect the playful energy and modernist approach of Pop Art, capturing the essence of celebration that champagne embodies. Each set came in a specially designed box, and while they are now rare collectibles, they remain an iconic representation of the intersection between art and fine winemaking.
